The "SS" (Sungai Sendat) Outing

4 ~ 5 November 2006

All month long in Ramadhan, we talked about going on a trip soonest possible after the Eidul-Fitri celbration. And after a full week of vacation and holidays for most (Eidul-Fitri week of 23rd Oct to 27th Oct), and a week of recovery from the long fasting and holidays period, an impromptu plan was made to go out "in action" again. With no specific destination suggested, it was agreed that we visit a place where we have not been to before but heard much about. Thus, the Sungai Sendat.

None of the four pilots - Romeo, Whiskey, Alpha and Bravo had been to this place before. Thus, we sort of bulldozed our way after asking for direction at the coffee shop just at the exit of 'civilization' in Ulu Yam. We expected a mild off-road and we did find gravelled road (probably waiting be be paved with asphalt before the next general election...)

But as we reached the riverside, there were some hope of more than mild tracks.

However, when we came to what looked like an abandone orang-asli settlemet (few houses there), we kew deep down in our hearts that the track (or none presence) was of mild and soft in nature. A consolation though, we chanced upon a fallen tree that offer some form of excitement ~ especially for Alpha's co-pilot, Din, whom was on his maiden outing (He's the guy in blue t-shirt).

Another excitement for the day - Alpha inadvertantly locked his 4X4 gear shift in neutral rendering his Jimny immobilized. A consolation though, we had (as always) our designated mechie in the form of Whiskey.... hehehehe.... So, with some guidance from a qualified mechanic whom Azli contacted over the phone (ahh... yes, there were signals here), whiskey pulled out the gear-shift stick of the 'double-gear', and together with Azli, they managed to relocked the double-gear in 4H - and it stayed stucked there throughout the whole trip!

We pushed on after repairs (albeit temporary as Alpha would definitely need to bring his Jimny to the workshop after this trip to troubleshoot his gearbox!) were done. However, after what seemed like an excited jungle trail, it came to an abrupt ends. We however managed to scrape a couple of 'rebong' or young bamboo shoots for our lunch later.

As we turned back, we were on the look out for camping spots as well as any track that we can play at. And as we crossed the river, we chanced upon a number of SS (special stages) which was previously used in one of a 4X4 competition.

But before we "play", lunch first at the viccinity of the Sg Sendat Waterfall ~ which by the is very nice ~ with some of the team members taking photos.

A couple of SS that we had fun at. First is what I call the "hill pass" SS.

And 2nd, the steep "hill climb" SS.

After all the fun, we retired some distance away from the waterfall and set up camp for the night. It was a not-so-tiring trip ~ which was totally fine as I guess all was still weary from the fasting month and the long Eidul-Fitri celebration....

The Morning After.... as usual, first order of business would be breakfast! And our standard menu are french toast, sausage & teh tarik (and missing on this trip was baked-beans in tomato sauce - but Jack replaced that with a deliciously prepared fried rice!).

In summary, the Sungai Sendat area provides a good place for camping with nice waterfall a a few equally nice riversides. Although it does not offer our regular hard-core trails, it does come with many SS. We particularly enjoyed the "hill pass" and the "hill climb", not forgetting the "mid track SS" which brough excitement to the two young co-pilots (Afif & Eki). I would call this an SS Outing ~ SS for Sungai Sendat as well as Special Stage....

And we all agree that this location would be ideal for a family trip!
