The Family Outing

25th / 26th December 2005

It was supposed to be a family outing and a picnic trip for the tribe. It was carefully planned between Romeo, Zulu and Bravo. All considerations ~ kids and children, no stressful stuck-in-mud, camp up early before dark, etc ~ were taken into account and given the highest priority. And although few destinations were 'confirmed' after our initial discussion, we ended going to a different place that was not even in our list of places to go!

At first (and as pblished on our website), the trip was supposed to be a 3day2nights 25th/27th Dec outing to Endau-Rompin forest reserve. It was later shortened to 2days1nite as Romeo's wife had an inexcusable appointment on the 27th. So the trip was to be 2days1nite on 25th/26th Dec. Whiskey Mike had been excused as he would be attending a wedding in Kuala Terengganu over the period ~ and Dot Com @ November Hotel would only be back from Hajj after mid Jan06. Thus the three of us deliberated when Romeo indicated his reluctance to travel that far to Endau Rompin for an ovenite trip.

I enquired a friend and proposed to move our destination to Sungai Sendat which was politely opposed by Zulu whom counter-suggested going to Cameron Highland. At this juncture Romeo vetoed and our destination was finally agreed to be Lata Berembun in Raub Pahang. And all this happened over a two day period!

As we made preparations to make the trip on Sunday the 25th, my parents came a visit which caused a dilemma for me ~ whether to leave 'em or to opt out from the trip. Long story short, my dad joined the trip wit my younger brother driving Perodua Kembara! Well.... it was ok as Romeo assured that the route would be softer than soft ~ which was why Zulu and I swithed to All-Terrain tires while Romeo would be going in his NinjaTurtle (not prep for heavy duty off road).

There were not much pictures taken that day, as we were en-route a normal offraod condition. Here's a group photo of the families...

The road was gravelled... the scenery was enchanting... the family was happy

However, the trip became a challenging ordeal for us when it started to rain, and the NinjaTurtle's 4X4 was not working! At the first slippery slope, that car just refused to make traction resulting in the tow!--->

<---- and of course Romeo was full of regrets that he did not drive his ever nimble SJ410!   I think he came to understand and appreciate how it felt to be on the receiving end of the recovery!   And the rest of us regretted to have not used the Trekker tires!

Well guys.... I only had four takes on my camera. So, no more pics for this outing. Just stories.

It was as if the team was not meant to go out without full participation from members. This was the second trip made without Dot Com @ November Hotel.   And as the previous Janda Baik outing, we had to make a u-turn after the second hill-climb and the night came a calling. So, we did not make the intended destination of Lata Berembun ~ a quick decision was made to move our camping destination to Lata Jarum in Hulu Dong which was about 30km away from here.....

And as the previoustrip, we arrived at campsite after 10:00pm. Everyone was very tired from the recovery activities earlier - if I remember correctly we had to make about six recoveries (mostly the Ninja but two was recovery of the Kembara).   Oh almost forgot, the king of recovery, Zulu's LC, also had to self-recover on the way out of this Lata Berembun route; and his winch developed some minor damage after so many "hard work"!    But nothing that cannot be made good....hehehehehe...

Until the next trip... happy offroading ya all!
