The Janda Baik Jungle Trip

10 ~ 11 Dec 2005

Only four machines were able to participate in this outing as Dot Com @ November Hotel @ Foxtrot (still undecided on his call sign!!! is away to perform his Hajj ~ hopefully Fizzy come back from his Hajj with a decision....hehehehehe....).

After the team RV'd at Bukit Tinggi town, as usual we topped up our tanks as we head out into the 'battle ground'. And as if it was our routine ritual, we had to stop at the last grocery store (in Simpang Tiga Janda Baik) for our shopping spree! Not much were procured, except some items we oversighted such as cooking oil, baygon (insect aerosol), titbits and the likes.

From left, the LC-Shortie, the Trooper, the Jimny and the the LC-Zulu at the "Spree"..

The original plan was to make our way into the hills beyond Janda Baik in Pahang and came out in Kuala Klawang of Negeri Sembilan. But fate has it that we did not get through the extreme slopes and the thick jungle. This trip was very challenging in may aspects. All kind of terrains were faced by the team. From rocky roads and rocky river crossings, to muddy slopes and narrow hill track with hill-face on our left and deep ravines on our right. Slight mistakes could have caused a big drop into the valley. The trails were obviously very demanding and as hardcore as we hoped it to be.

The weather was not our side that day ~ sunny and clear as we headed out into the jungle! As Zulu always said - the weather is good when it rained.... hahahahaha.... we were just "looking for trouble"!

~ as we see the end of asphalt road, we made our way into the jungle on rocky or muddy trails ~

But it was not all fair weather.... as we were making our way through the deep jungle, through tracks made either by the logging folks or the "others" - 4X4 enthusiasts just like us - it rained just enuff to give us mud ~ and muddy tracks! and that's the way we liked it!

We would have completed the planned journey, but with two cars developing slight trouble (not to mention were without the essential winch!), we decided that this trip be cut short and subject to return venture in the future. And yes, we actually made a u-turn when the daylights left us. It was a risk too great to be taken for the time being. We turned back looking for a place to rest for the night ~ which we eventually did at almost midnight!

Amidst all the "fun" - mostly hard work in getting our stucked wheels out of the slippery trails, some of us could still pose a smile :) .......... and most definitely we need to fill our stomach, albeit with basic meal ~ almost cooked rice, with fried eggs and raw vegie. And of course Zulu brought ready-cooked meat curry along - good thinking! Lunch at 5:00pm could be unusual but that's normal on trips such as this.

The second day was "play" day. After breakfast, we of course continued to play up the hillside slopes off Mile 7, old Bentong KL road. At 4:00pm, we came to up to to the hilltop with no more access to go through. We then headed back and parted ways for the weekend....

~ yuppp.... we trudges through the trees to see more trees atop the hills ~

Looking back, all four machines had their fair share of getting stuck on this trip. And the most valuable lesson learned is that all cars must urgently be fitted with winches. With extreme terrains such as we went through on this trip, it would be extra difficult for any vehicle to lend a towing hand when getting through was already a big challenge. But then again, towing through the difficulties added more fun ~ not to mention the body-ache!

Until the next outing, keep 'em tires (all four!) spinning in the mudgroves!
