Janda Baik for the Fourth Time.... 14th July 2007

Gugujah Homepage

After quite a long break from any outing, and with Romeo's persistant to go out, plans were tentatively made to go on an outing.  It seemed so long ago that I last went offfroad.... March this  year... about four months of hybernation!  And the 'break' I had taken was for a good reason... I had broken my LC's front-right shocks during the Ice Mountain excursion.  It wasn't until Romeo alerted the group of this outing that i had it repaired... less than a week ago :)

A friend of mine, Rizal has been wanting to join Gugujah on an outing for as long as I can remember since I got meself into this 4X4 thingy.  So, when he called and set the date, I agreed after consultation with other Gugujah members.  So, the 18th Gugujah outing was set to take place on 14th July.  From Gugujah the now four cars while Rizal mentioned he will have two other rigs joining.

But  it turned out, the plan were a bit off....   Firstly, Alpha & Whiskey couldn't make it.  So it was all up to me & Romeo, plus Rizal only as his buddies didn't quite made it.

And we sort of agreed to re-visit Janda Baik...  So Janda Baik it was as our destination....

So there we were ~ eight people in three rigs ~ looking for adventure...  I had my three adik ipar (May, Nuar & Zmie), Romeo was with his eldest son while Rizal was accompanied by Bob, a mechanic...

Anyway, signs of challenges already greeted us as we made our way to Janda Baik.  Firstly, Rizal's rear-left tyre got punctured while we were still on the NKVE.  That alone has set us back by a few hours.  Though we left home around 7:00am, we only reached Bukit Tinggi after 11:00am!  Romeo was already sulking as he had to wait quite a bit - the only conslolation was that Whiskey was there accompanying him (and to see us off).  So, after a quick coffee at the usual coffee shop nearby BP in Kg Bukit Tinggi, we were off.  It was almost noon then...

The weather was good!  clear and with a beautiful sunshiny day...  It was all ok and Zmie + May took a lot of pics from their cameophone

Everything was a-ok, until we reached the camping spot from our previous trip.... it was a rather fast trip... arriving there at around 3:00pm.. so, we decided to push on to the track that we've not gone through before.....  And this was where trouble began... :)

First trouble - Rizal's winch was damaged when he forgot to free the pto gear.... but n the spirit of adventure (plus we need to find a stream for our camp out...hehehehe), we pushed on with me pulling Rizal's rig whenever he got stuck...  Then the second problem came... my LC's winch cable snapped while trying to pull Rizal's LandRover from a very deep mudhole....  It was still daytime when Rizal got stuck... but the effort took us until past midnight without any success....  Everyone was tired and restless.. so, just after midnite, we called it a day and camp out nearby.... with a very pitiful water-hole ~ enuff though for us to wash up....

The next morning, everyone tried to wake up early... but with the ordeal the night before, the sun was shinning really bright when we got up!

Some of us were still in dreamland!  That would be my co-pilots - Zmie & Nuar....

So, after everyone was up on their feet, the rescue task reconvened....  It didn't look so bad in the daylights as compared to the dark night!

With two rigs combining effort, Rizal's  LandRover finally came out of the mudhole.... and with that everyone was all smiles...  However, there two other places on  our way back where we needed to put in the same winching effort....  Not as bad, but still, it was the 'adventure' that we started out to look for!

Halfway along the return trail, Romeo's long shaft came loose..... luckily it was only a case of screws and nuts giving way...

This time around, Rizal & Bob became the rescuer!

We made it out to the nearest kebun sayur around 3:00pm I think..  Romeo had to rush back as he had some people waiting for him.  Rizal & me took our time at the nearby river to really bathe & wash our rigs.....

All in all, this was indeed an adventure that I think Rizal would remember well...hehehehehe...
